About the Organization
Bangladesh Machine Tools Factory Limited (BMTF) is a state-owned industrial enterprise with a heritage rooted in the country's earliest push toward heavy industry. The factory was conceived in 1963, with construction beginning in 1966 as the East Pakistan Machine Tools Factory. It was heavily damaged during the Liberation War of 1971, and after construction was eventually completed, it was commissioned on 11 February 1979, marking a key step in Bangladesh's post-independence industrial development.
Today, BMTF is a commercial enterprise run under the management of the Bangladesh Army. The factory was officially handed over to the Bangladesh Army on 27 July 2000, and it has operated as a state-owned limited company under army management since. It is located at Joydebpur, Gazipur, about 40 km from Dhaka, on a site of around 247.66 acres, and is led by a Managing Director of Major General rank. Originally founded to serve as a "mother industry" for the nation's smaller engineering enterprises, it remains one of the largest commercial enterprises of its kind in the country.
Business Operations
BMTF operates as a diversified manufacturing enterprise. It runs 19 factories engaged in manufacturing a total of 566 products, and serves over 500 local and global clients, aiming to contribute to the national economy through industrial growth and job creation. Its production base is broad, covering commercial automobiles, footwear and leather products, automobile parts, digital number plates, digital blue books, and electronic products.
A particularly significant part of its operations is vehicle assembly and defence-support manufacturing. The Bangladesh Army-owned corporation has assembled 3-ton militarised trucks since 2001 at its vehicle assembly shop, with an annual production capacity of 1,500 vehicles, and it also builds motorcycles and has diversified into trucks, utility pickups, buses, ambulances, prison vans, and fire engines. More recently, BMTF has disclosed that it is collaborating with a foreign partner to assemble advanced tanks and armoured combat vehicles for the first time in Bangladesh's history. The enterprise also supplies products such as digital number plates and digital blue books used in national vehicle registration, and it has earned international ISO standard certification for its quality systems.
Affiliation with BUP Career Club
BMTF has come on board as a key supporting partner of the BUP Career Club's flagship event for its latest edition. BUP Career Club is hosting the ninth edition of its flagship event, City Bank Presents BUP Career & Education Fest 2026, powered by Trust Bank PLC and co-powered by Bangladesh Machine Tools Factory (BMTF), from 17 to 21 May 2026 at Bangladesh University of Professionals. In this lineup, BMTF holds the "co-powered by" billing, joining City Bank and Trust Bank among the lead sponsors of the festival.
The partnership reflects a natural alignment of interests. The BUP Career Club exists to create a bridge between the corporate world and the university, helping fresh graduates reach their desired professions while equipping students with the skills to stay ahead of the competition. As a large state-owned industrial and engineering enterprise, BMTF stands to benefit from direct access to BUP's talent pool, while its involvement broadens the festival beyond the banking and services sectors to include manufacturing and engineering, sectors that offer a distinct set of career pathways for students. There is also a shared institutional thread among this year's lead sponsors: like Trust Bank, BMTF operates under the management of the Bangladesh Army, which fits naturally with BUP's own origins as a university connected to the country's professional and defence establishment.
