About the Organization
Akij Resource Limited (ARL) is one of Bangladesh's largest and most diversified conglomerates, carrying forward a business legacy that stretches back more than eight decades. The company upholds the enduring legacy of Sheikh Akijuddin, a pioneering industrialist whose entrepreneurial journey began in the 1940s through humble beginnings in jute trading and whose commitment to quality, resilience, and nation-building laid the foundation for the Akij Group. Akij Resource Limited is one of five clusters resulting from the family's mutual split. It began in April 2020 with a mission to deliver high-quality products and services while continuously improving and benefiting society and the environment.
The company is headquartered at Akij House in Dhaka and is led by Managing Director and CEO Sheikh Jasim Uddin. An Electronics and Computer Engineering graduate from the University of Surrey, UK, Sheikh Jasim Uddin has over two decades of experience and has led Akij Resource to become one of Bangladesh's most respected conglomerates, generating annual revenue of around USD 1 billion. Under his leadership, the company is guided by AI-first, mobile-first, and cloud-first strategies as it transforms its operations while prioritising sustainability and social responsibility.
Business Operations
Akij Resource operates across a broad and deliberately interconnected set of industries. It operates across building materials, logistics, technology, food, and commodities, with each vertical designed to complement the others, enabling both revenue growth and employment creation. Its product portfolio is wide-ranging, spanning cement, ready-mix concrete, steel bars, and stone chips, through to poly fiber bags, shipping, IT, and everyday food commodities such as rice, flour, salt, sugar, grains, and fertiliser.
The company has steadily expanded beyond its traditional strongholds. A trusted name in the building materials sector for over two decades, Akij Resource has more recently ventured into the steel industry and the food commodity and agricultural sector. In consumer goods, it has entered the essentials market under the brand "Essential," covering products such as rice, lentils, flour, oil, sugar, and salt, and has set up manufacturing facilities, including a 600-tonne-capacity flour mill in Narayanganj. On the technology side, its IT arms, including Blue Pill Limited and Akij Infotech Limited, position the group as a partner for businesses moving toward digital operations.
Looking ahead, the company has set out an ambitious, employment-focused growth agenda. As Bangladesh's economy seeks new engines of growth amid slowing exports and rising automation, Akij Resource is pivoting toward diversified, technology-driven, and employment-intensive ventures, with Managing Director Sheikh Jasim Uddin setting a vision to create over one million jobs within the next decade, alongside expansion into the digital economy, agro-based industries, telecom, and retail healthcare sectors. The company has also moved directly into the careers space, operating an online career portal, nextjobz, which engages with students and job seekers at major employment events.
