About the Organization
Panjeree Publications Limited is one of Bangladesh's leading and most respected publishing houses, with a long-standing reputation in the country's educational and creative publishing landscape. Panjeree began its journey on 19 November 1993 and was formally incorporated as a limited company in 2000, and in recent years it has celebrated 25 years under its current name, a journey from a modest Banglabazar bookshop to a trusted national publisher.
The company's identity is rooted in a mission of enlightenment. Inspired by Farrukh Ahmed's poetry, the name "Panjeree," which signifies enlightenment, was chosen to symbolise the spread of light and knowledge, particularly to students from underserved communities, and the house was guided by founders Mohammad Abdur Rahim Shahjahan and later Abdullah Al Baki, who sought to combine quality with originality. Headquartered in Dhaka, the company is a private company limited by shares incorporated in Bangladesh, led by a board that includes Engr. Md. Abdullah Al Baki as Chairman and Kamrul Hasan Shayok as Managing Director. Its founding purpose was always broader than commerce; as one of its directors has put it, the vision was always bigger than books, aiming to create a learning ecosystem that could reach students everywhere, not just in Dhaka.
Business Operations
Panjeree operates across the full breadth of Bangladesh's publishing sector. Beginning its journey with a goal to bring far-reaching, pragmatic change to the book publishing field, the company has gone on to publish educational books, reference books, novels, poetry books, comics, travelogues, and classics in translation, earning wide acclaim for its commitment to quality. Its catalogue spans textbooks for all classes, reference books from SSC up to Degree and Honours level, and computer books for children, office executives, freshers, and young professionals.
Two areas in particular have shaped its identity. The first is comics: beginning with Sharier Khan's Basic Ali and later titles such as Babu and Laily, Panjeree's comics captured young readers' imaginations and helped shape Bangladesh's modern comic industry, setting a standard for creativity and editorial quality. The second is its role in education and careers, including the publication of computer handbooks and a monthly education and career magazine named "Panjeree Shiksha Sambad," which contributes to the development of young professionals as well as students. The company has also expanded into retail and is embracing digital transformation, having opened PBS, the first bookstore chain in Bangladesh, in 2009.
Underpinning its operations is a strong social mission. As it works toward becoming a global name, Panjeree is pledge-bound to help achieve the aims of UNESCO's "Books for Everyone" and the Bangladesh Government's "Education for All," building a future where a passion for reading is a key parameter of a society's progress.
